Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology invites applications for a PhD position for studying the evolutionary ecology of chemical defences.

About the project:

• The project will utilise techniques such as: working with specialist and generalist invertebrate or vertebrate predators/consumers; toxicokinetics; identification and cloning of genes; quantitative real-time RT-PCR; heterologous expression techniques; and bioinformatics procedures including comparative analyses.

Starting Date: negotiable; March 2018

Working language: English (German skills are not essential)

Duration: 3 years; fully funded

Requirements:

• Applicant must hold master’s degree or 1st class honors degree in zoology, ecology, or related subjects.
• Applicants with a background in chemistry or computer science, who have demonstrated an interest in biology, are also strongly encouraged to apply.
• Applicant must have experience of independent research in a related area.
• The position is open to applicants from all nationalities including non-E.U.
• Applicant must possess proficiency in English (both written and spoken).
