Research Assistant / Associate Clinical Neurosciences

Two Research Assistant / Associate (Fixed Term) at the Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Cambridge funded by the BRC-fundING, Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre.

Two (02) research positions are open to work within the group of Prof Maria Grazia Spillantini based at the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, University of Cambridge.

Research Area: Understanding the mechanism of neurodegeneration linked to protein aggregation, particularly tau and alpha-synuclein. The project aims to investigate tau characteristics and toxicity in human neurons derived from induced pluripotent stem cells from patients with tauopathies.

Techniques used: Several techniques will be used by the post-holder such as

  1. Human cell culture,
  2. Molecular biology,
  3. Immunocytochemistry,
  4. Immunohistochemistry,
  5. Protein chemistry
  6. Light and confocal microscopy of human cells and tissue.
  7. Electron microscopy and dSTORM.
  8. Experience on neurodegenerative diseases with protein aggregates and/or exosomes and neurotrophic factors will be an advantage.

Note: Experience on neuronal cell biology, molecular biology, neurodegenerative diseases with tau aggregates will be an advantage.

LODE-funded position: The work is based within an international consortium comprising 4 research institutions across Europe (Italy, Germany, Belgium) and USA.

Project overview: It seeks to uncover the relevance of neurotrophic factors & exosomes alterations in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.

Duration: the position is fixed-term. The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
