The PhD Programme at the Department of Economics prepares the candidate both for a career in academia as well as for qualified positions in government ministries and agencies, international organizations and the private sector.

Nature of job:

  1. The holder of a PhD-student position would mainly devote his/her time to their own research studies.
  2. Other departmental work such as educational or administrative would comprise max 20% of the position.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. The applicant must have completed at least 240 ECTS-credits of coursework (4 years of full-time studies), including at least 60 ECTS-credits at the advanced (master) level (1 year of full-time studies), or have acquired the equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.
  2. In addition, the applicant must have at least 90 ECTS-credits in economics (3 semesters), or have acquired the equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.
  3. The admission requirements apply at the date of admission, not at the date of application.
  4. Students who can fulfill the above illustrated admission criteria by early August can very well apply.

  1. Personal letter of max. 2 pages in which one should describe why he/she want to enroll in the PhD Programme in Economics at Uppsala University and illustrate the fields within economics that are of primary interest clearly.
  2. Attested copies of all qualifications, including all completed academic courses and academic degrees.
  3. Copies of essays that have been authored by the candidate
  4. A detailed Curriculum Vitae
  5. Contact details of 2 academic references (address, email address and telephone number).
  6. The GRE test result should be sent directly to the department.
  7. The GRE: school code 0247, dept. code 1801.
  8. It should be noted that the GRE test is mandatory.
  9. It is strongly recommended that foreign applicants take the TOEFL test or the IELTS test and ensure that the result of the test is sent directly to the department:
