The School of Life Sciences at the University of Sussex is inviting applications for a Research fellow in Cancer Virology. The School is at the forefront of research in the biological sciences in the UK.

About the position:

• Candidate should be an ambitious and creative Research Fellow
• Thus is a 3 year project funded by the Medical Research Council to work on the cancer-associated Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).
• The selected candidate will join the research team of Professor Michelle West and be based within the Biochemistry and Biomedicine subject group.
• The selected candidate will be a dedicated team player with previous experience in molecular biology and biochemistry.
• A background in molecular virology or molecular oncology is also desirable.

Requirements:

• PhD in a relevant area viz., Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or Immunology.
• Experience in a range of molecular and biochemical techniques e.g. DNA cloning, RNA and DNA extraction, real-time PCR, immunoprecipitation, Western blotting.
• Experience of mammalian cell culture and transfection.
• Knowledge of eukaryotic gene regulation and or chromatin biology.

Desirable Criteria

• Experience in molecular virology or molecular oncology.
• Experience in chromatin immunoprecipitation.
• Knowledge of eukaryotic transcription mechanisms and transcription factor function.
• Emerging track record of high-quality publications in reputable journals and other appropriate media of similar standing.
