The School of Engineering and Natural Sciences at the University of Iceland invites applications for a research scientist position within the Institute of Life and Environmental Sciences. The position and research grants are funded by StofnFiskur.

Research Field: Control of maturation in farmed salmon”

About the position:
  • The successful candidate will supervise a research project on processes of sexual maturation in farmed salmon and be involved in supervising students.
  • The main goal of the project is to develop methods that could be applied to control mauration in broodstocks and prevent sexual maturation in farmed salmon applying cutting edge molecular genetics.

Qualification:

  • A PhD in Developmental Biology or related fields
  • Experience with gene editing tools, such as CRISPR-Cas9 that will be used to understand the physiological processes of sexual maturation and their underlying mechanisms in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar)
  • Background knowledge in Atlantic salmon development and rearing is an advantage.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work independently and in a research team.
  • Good knowledge in written and spoken English.
