Empirical Economist Researcher: MPI 1032 views

The Munich Center for Economics of Aging (MEA) at the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy studies is inviting applications for a Eperical Economist as a Researcher for the research unit “Old-Age Provision and Social Policy” (“Alterssicherung und Sozialpolitik”).

About the research:
  • The center evaluates, anticipates and accompanies the micro- and macro­economic aspects of demographic change
  • The Researcher (m/f/d) should have sound knowledge of econometrics and applied microeconomics as well as good knowledge of the German social security system, especially in the field old-age provision and long-term care.
  • Experience with micro data sets is especially welcome.
  • The candidate will start as soon as possible and the employment contract will be for two years.
  • The selected candidate will work on empirical research questions concerning actual demographic and political development in Germany.
  • The research fields are: retirement decisions, pension reform evaluation, insurance options, savings behavior, provisions for long-term care, and similar questions.

Requirements:

  • Applicant must hold Diplom, Master or Ph.D. or close to finishing PhD in Economics or a related field,
  • Strong interest in public economics and economic policy analysis,
  • Sound knowledge of advanced econometrics and causal inference methods,
  • Experience in handling large micro data sets,
  • Programming experience in STATA (or similar software), MatLab.
  • Fluency in English is required.
