COHb Researcher: The department is looking for a COHb Researcher for a 12 month pilot study icluding develoment of a protocol to monitor Carboxyhemoglobin (COHb) at post mortems. This project is run jointly by the Environmental Epidemiology Group, CRCE of Public Health England (PHE) at Didcot and Cranfield Forensic Institute (CFI) at Shrivenham.
CFI is a fast moving, academic and practical arena with sought after expertise, and considerable credentials, in the area of various forensic niche sciences, in which Cranfield is the recognised leader in this field. PHE protects and improves the nation’s health and wellbeing, and reduce health inequalities by researching, collecting and analysing data to improve understanding of health and come up with answers to public health problems.
The post holder will be based at the PHE offices at Chilton near Didcot where they will be designing a pilot project that aims to assess the feasibility and practicalities of population-wide testing of COHb levels in recently deceased working closely with a select group of coroners.
Requirements: It is essential that the post holder has an MSc in a relevant discipline (Environmental Health Studies or Public Health with an environmental component, or Environmental Technology with a health component) with a desire to plan towards a PhD in this field.
Other requirements: The post holder will have
- experience in the area of public health and a good understanding of epidemiological methodologies as well as the principles of research design.
- The ability to communicate with coroners, coroner officers and laboratory staff;
- ability to present information in a concise and accurate manner and the ability to apply statistical and other mathematical principles to recorded data sets are all essential requirements.
