The Faculty of Applied Sciences at Delft University of Technology (Tu Delft) is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral position on Study of the thermochemical and thermophysical properties of minor actinides bearing fuels for transmutation.
About the research:
- The research group will contribute to the modeling of the complex U-Np-Pu-Am-O system minor actinide bearing fuel system through the funding of a Postdoc for 20 months.
- To achieve this, the Post Doc candidate will perform a critical review of the sub-systems in the U-Am-Pu-Np-O system to identify key gaps in knowledge and relevant experiments.
- Experimental work will then be performed at the Joint Research Center of the European Commission in Karlsruhe (JRC Karlsruhe), including structural studies by X- ray diffraction, microscopy, and thermodynamic studies using calorimetry, laser-flash techniques, and Knudsen Effusion Mass Spectrometry.
- The collected experimental data will serve as input to develop thermodynamic models of these systems using the CALPHAD method with the Thermocalc and Factsage softwares.
- As part of the Postdoc, the candidate will supervise bachelor and master students, and will contribute to some educational activities.
Requirements:
- Applicant must be outstanding candidate with a PhD degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Applied Science or a related field.
- Candidate should have an affinity for multidisciplinary fields of research. Computer skills in modeling are desirable, as well as a hands-on attitude towards experimental work.
- Creativity, flexibility and ability to co-operate within an interdisciplinary research group.
- Excellent communication skills, including good written and spoken English, as well as the ability to conduct independent scientific work are required.
- Fluency in English is essential.
How to apply:
