Postdoctoral Research Associate in Inorganic chemistry: Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work under the supervision of Professor Peter P Edwards (FRS) and Dr Tiancun Xiao on a research project funded by the EPSRC for a period of 42 months.

The project involves low carbon jet fuel from CO2 and biomass. You will work mainly on the catalytic process design, simulation and catalyst development. Find out more about the Edwards/Xiao research and group at: Edward Research Xiao Research .

Core Research areas: Research in Chemistry As might be expected for a department of its size, Oxford has world class research across a very broad range of chemistry and at its interfaces with other disciplines. In all areas the department seeks to advance fundamental science and knowledge with the expectation that such advances will lead to a step change of impact in applications and commercial exploitation, as has been demonstrated in many recent instances.

Activity can be roughly grouped into a number of broad ‘themes’, although there is much overlap, and many academics work in more than one area.

  • Chemistry at the interface with biology and medicine,
  •  Sustainable energy,
  •  Catalysis,
  •  Advanced functional materials and interfaces,
  •  Innovative measurement and photon science,
  •  Synthesis,
  •  Theory and modelling of complex systems,
  •  Kinetics, dynamics and mechanism,

Qualification / Requirements: Applicants must hold a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Physical Chemistry, or Inorganic Chemistry (or have submitted a PhD thesis prior to taking up the appointment). Carry out research in catalyst preparation, process simulation and catalyst testing. Manage own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, co-ordinating multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You should have knowledge of Aspen Simulation, Kinetics of Chemical Reaction and C1 chemistry and Catalysts. Have expertise in the petrochemical industry.

The post will be based in the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, South Parks Road, OX1 3QR and is available from January 2016, or as soon as possible thereafter.

You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application.

Deadline: The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday Friday, 8 January 2016.

Only applications received before midday on 8 January 2016 can be considered. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.

The University of Oxford and the Department of Chemistry are Athena SWAN Silver award holders. Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and ethnic minority candidates, who are under-represented in Chemistry research posts in Oxford.
