The position is part of the recently granted project ISOBAR (Innovative Strategies for Observation in the Arctic Atmospheric Boundary Layer) funded by the Research Council of Norway and associated with the research group in experimental meteorology.

Research topics: 

  • Stable Arctic Atmospheric Boundary Layer (AABL) by a combination of new measurement methods,
  • Use of fixed and rotary wing remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) and atmospheric models of different resolution and complexity .
  • Increase our understanding of the turbulent exchange processes in the AABL and to develop and validate new boundary layer parameterizations for application in numerical weather prediction and climate models.

Qualifications and personal qualities

  • You must have completed a master’s degree or equivalent in oceanography, meteorology, physics, earth sciences, applied mathematics or related disciplines, or have submitted your master’s thesis for evaluation before expiry of the application deadline.
  • You should have relevant experience in boundary layer meteorology and ideally also in the related measurement technology
  • Experience in the planning, organization and realization of field campaigns is highly desirable for the position.
  • Experience in atmospheric modelling, e.g. in Numerical Weather Prediction or Large Eddy Simulation (LES) are of advantage.
  • Knowledge in scientific programming (e.g. MatLab, PYTHON, or similar) and the analysis of large data sets will be an additional plus.
  • The successful candidate will work in a lively research environment, must have good team working skills, and the ability to pursue a scientific career in meteorology or geophysics.
  • You must be proficient in both written and oral English
