About the Project:
The Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics (KdVI) of the University of Amsterdam recruiting 2 PhD position in Algebraic and Arithmetic Geometry.
First project- Guided by Lenny Taelman, part of the ERC Consolidator grant ‘Zeta functions and Fourier–Mukai transforms’. This is a project directing to discover the delicate relations between two central areas of algebraic geometry, derived categories of coherent sheaves, and arithmetic algebraic geometry.
Second project- Guided by Arno Kret, part of the VIDI grant ‘Shimura varieties and the Langlands conjecture’. This project is about a study of the arithmetic of Shimura varieties modulo prime numbers, by using the Langlands-Kottwitz method.
Subject areas: Algebraic, Arithmetic Geometry and Mathematics or related fields.
Qualifications: Master’s degree in mathematics
Requirements:
- Strong background in algebraic geometry.
- Brilliant writing and communication skills in English;
- Commitment and a cooperative attitude.
- Perform research on Algebraic and Arithmetic Geometry;
- Experience in the research programme Algebra, Geometry and Mathematical Physics.
- Experience in teaching is added benefit.
