Two (02) Phd Positions in Applied Nanophotonics, Physics: Phd Positions on Nonlinear Integrated Photonic Signal processing at the University of Twente (Netherlands)

The group explores the physics & technology of light manipulation in which we accentuate nanophotonic approaches. This includes a wide range of light intensities & time scales, and it emphasizes research on advanced light sources that are of importance for emerging applications, such as in telecommunications (integrated microwave photonics), precision metrology or optical sensing.

Research Overview: The present research includes integrated nonlinear optics, integrated quantum optics, & integrated signal processor. The group participates in a wide network of strategic collaborates with many partners, including the Applied Nanophotonics (ANP) Research Cluster and the MESA and Institute for Nanotechnology.

The group is looking for two PhD students to carry out state-of-the-art research on Brillouin signal processors in silicon nitride.

The aim in to explore breakthrough science and building pivotal technologies based on the exquisite light & hyper-sound interactions in the nanoscale.

Participating Organizations: The vacancies are parts of University of Twente, LiSbon, the NWO Vidi project of David Marpaung, with LioniX International, Smart Photonics, PhoeniX Software, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and Universitat Politecnica de Valencia (UPV) as academic partners.

Requirements / Qualifications

  1. Highly motivated person
  2. An excellent background in physics, photonics, applied physics, electrical engineering, microwave photonics, or any closely related areas.

Extensive experience in one of the following areas: Photonic integrated circuits, Microwave photonics and signal processing, Nonlinear optics, Brillouin Scattering , Optical frequency combs, Optomechanics

Further Information: Potential applicants are encouraged to discuss the projects with Dr. David Marpaung (d.a.i.marpaung@utwente.nl) prior to submitting applications.

Application Procedure: Applications should include the following documents:

  1. A one-page motivation why you want to apply for this position;
  2. A detailed CV (resume) with a publication list;
  3. An academic transcript of B.Sc. and M.Sc. education;
  4. A high TOEFL (> 90 or 100) or IELTS (> 6.5 or 7) score, generally requested.
