3 PhD Positions in Cancer Biology at UCC 2310 views

The School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology at University College Cork (UCC) is inviting applications for PhD Positions in Cancer Biology. Three PhD studentships are available to highly motivated candidates, wishing to pursue research in the area of drug resistance, genomic instability or the role of long, non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in cancer.

About the project:

Project 1:  This project will use preclinical in vitro and in vivo models of drug resistant breast cancer to study the possibility of using novel small molecule inhibitors of recycling to overcome drug resistance in cancer.

Project 2: The project aims at investigating how defects in RNA processing contribute to genomic instability. The research will involve a wide range of molecular biology techniques combined with novel genome-wide genomic and proteomic approaches.  The overarching goal of this project is to better understand the mechanism(s) underlying genomic instability in cancer and to use this mechanistic insight to develop novel anti-cancer therapies.

Project 3: This project aims to identify lncRNAs and RNA-binding proteins that interact with lncRNAs to investigate mechanisms by which these complexes can influence cell behaviour in pre-clinical breast and ovarian cancer models. The project will be based in the Dean research group that has local, national and international research and clinical collaborators and is located in the modern, fully-equipped Western Gateway Building at UCC.

Starting Date: 1st October 2020

Requirements:

  • Applicant must be highly motivated candidates with a minimum 2.1H (or equivalent), BSc or MSc in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or related fields.

How to Apply:

Candidates should submit application by email, to: BiochemPhd@ucc.ie  including:
