Multiple Postdoc Fellowship Positions at the Center For Research And Development Of Functional Materials (CDMF), University of British Columbia (Canada)
These Post-Doctorate Fellowships are available at Center for Research and Development of Functional Materials (CDMF), founded by FAPESP (Sao Paulo Research Foundation).
Broad Area: The CDMF main focus is to develop functional & nanostructured materials with tailored properties to solve problems related to renewable energy, health & environment.
Details of the positions are given below:
Position 1: Development of perovskite solar cells.
Overview:
- Candidates should have experience in synthesis of CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite materials alongwith experience with photovoltaic devices and techniques for its characterization, such as voltage versus current and quantum efficiency measurements.
- Experience on films deposition techniques which are involved in the preparation of solar cells such as reactive sputtering, atomic layer deposition (ALD), spin coating and dip coating are also desired.
Supervisor: Elson Longo, elson@iq.unesp.br.
Position 2: Development of therapeutic substances produced by endophytic microorganisms alone or in association with nanoparticles as α-Ag2WO4.
This project aims to answer three major questions like:
- Bioactive substances derived from endophytes can be purified and act as antimicrobials and/or antitumorals
- These substances can be used to reduce/eliminate chronic and fatal diseases like leishmaniosis
- Nnanoparticles can be incorporated with the bioactive endophyte substances or extracts in order to present enhanced results
It is desired experience in the mentioned area of research.
Supervisor: Elson Longo, elson@iq.unesp.br.
Position 3: Development of a piezoresponse microscopy system for studies of ferroelectric materials.
- Ferroelectric thin films of perovskite type (ABO3) of the Pb1-xCaxTiO3 family will be prepared & characterized individually.
- All necessary instrumentation for research must be implemented in an atomic force microscope (AFM).
- It is high desired experience in AFM measurements.
Supervisor: Elson Longo, elson@iq.unesp.br.
Position 4: Development, antimicrobial activity & cytotoxicity analysis of silver phosphate microcrystals (Ag3PO4).
- Experience in synthesis & characterization of bimetallic oxides
- Experience in microbiological analysis against fungal and bacteria.
- Additional experience on development of multi species biofilms, cell culture & cell viability tests and assays in molecular biology are also desired.
Supervisor: Elson Longo, elson@iq.unesp.br.
Position 5: The project to be developed is based on a detailed study about the influence of the electric signal modulation on the gas sensor performance p-n junction devices based on 1D semiconducting nanostructures.
Overview:
- To build and characterize a new and sophisticated “3-in-1” gas sensor device (formed by the intersection of 02 crossed nanostructures) with a special design that allows to study simultaneously, in a single device, the sensor properties of three (03) channels independently,
- Focus will be understanding how to optimize their gas sensor response allowing for the development of new high-performance multifunctional electronic devices with potential to be used as chemical sensors.
Supervisor: Prof. Mário Cilense, mcilense@iq.unesp.br.
Position 6: Development of Nanostructured Materials based on Graphene & transition metals oxides to be applied as toxic gas sensors.
Overview:
- Interested candidate should have a PhD in the area of physics, chemistry or materials science
- A research experience in the areas of synthesis and characterization of powder and thin films nanostructured materials.
- Experience with deposition of thin films by Physical methods is also desirable..
Supervisor: Prof. Vamor Mastelaro, valmor@ifsc.usp.br.
Position 7: Development of nanomaterials with perovskite structure to be used in energy generation, such as piezoelectric and photovoltaic.
Overview:
- Perovskite materials will be synthesized as powders or films,
- They will be analyzed by structural & morphological characterization.
- The performance of the materials/devices will be evaluated aiming good properties to be used in the field proposed.
Supervisor: Maria Ap. Zaghete, zaghete@iq.unesp.br.
Position 8:
Overview:
- Candidates shall have academic degrees and experience in the areas of Education and/or Communication, preferentially in this interface between science education & dissemination of scientific knowledge,
- Proven experience with both research inscribed in the theoretical & methodological framework of the project (action research, Educating Cities and CTS Education),
- Scientific communication and dissemination.
Supervisor: Prof Adilson J. A. de Oliveira, adilson@ufscar.br.
How to Apply:
Interested candidates must send an e-mail to the correspondent supervisor with the following documents:
- Letter of interest for this position;
- Short CV containing academic degree, publications, and the documents showing expertise in the field and
- Two (02) letters of recommendation.
