AAPF: Astronomy and Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellowships
NSF Astronomy and Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellowships offer an opportunity for highly qualified, doctoral scientists to perform a combined program of independent research and education. Fellows may engross in observational, instrumental, theoretical, lab or archival data research in any area of aforementioned subjects, in combination with a coherent educational plan for the duration of the fellowship.
The program funds researchers for duration of up to three years with fellowships that may be under taken to eligible host institution(s) of choice. The program is anticipated to identify early-career investigators of significant talent and to provide them with experience in research and education that will establish them in positions of merit and leadership in the community.
Expected Number of Awards: 8 to 9
Projected Funding Amount: $810,000 in FY2012
Proposals may only be submitted by the following:
- NSF Astronomy and Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellowships are awarded to individuals. Proposals may be submitted directly by the fellowship candidate to NSF. Each candidate must recognize one or more sponsoring scientist(s) and host institution(s) at the time of proposal submission. Candidates may intend to hold the fellowship at: U.S. institutions of higher education, NSF-funded national centers, facilities or institutes such as the national laboratories or the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP)
- Non-profit organizations in U.S. with research and educational missions or International sites that are operated by U.S. organizations eligible for NSF funding, such as CTIO or Gemini South.
- National centers, facilities or institutes backed by other centralized agencies, such as NASA or the U.S. Department of Energy, are ineligible as host institutions for the NSF AAPF Program.
