Assistant/Associate Professor (Tenure Track) in Geography 852 views

The University of Oulu is inviting applications for Assistant/Associate Professor in Human Geography specializing in Geoinformatics. The position will be located in the Geography Research Unit at the Faculty of Science.

About the position and research:
  • The tenure track position offers an exciting opportunity for an early career researcher to conduct research at the intersection of Human Geography and Geoinformatics and to advance her/his career through the tenure track process and to be appointed to a permanent position as a professor
  • The research focus of the position can, for example, be related to health and wellbeing and their location-based analysis in different scales and contexts, planning and accessibility issues in public and private services and resource uses, and environmental issues in northern or peripheral areas.
  • A candidate with outstanding publication and teaching merits can be considered for Associate Professor level.
  • It is expected that the candidate qualifies as full professor after 1 – 2 five-year periods.

Qualifications:

  • The applicant must have solid and documented research experience in research utilizing Geoinformatics that incorporates central aspects of human geography.
  • Applicant would have an advantage if his/her research is multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary.
  • Candidate must demonstrate competence in academic publishing through previous publications in good quality, peer-reviewed academic outlets.
  • Applicant must hold Finnish PhD or a foreign PhD equivalent to a Finnish PhD in geography (PhD from another relevant disciplinary field can be considered).
  • Candidate should demonstrate ability for research collaboration, capacity to lead a research group and success in acquiring external research funding and collaborative work with Finnish societal stakeholders.
  • Experience in international co-operation and academic work abroad are considered valuable.
  • Candidate must demonstrate pedagogical competence, which will be evaluated based on her/his teaching merits, teaching experience, pedagogical training and the skills to produce teaching material.
  • Experience in supervising PhD or master’s candidates will be considered.
  • Fluency in English and good command in Finnish is required.
