Recruitment of Scientific Officers (Scientists & Engineers) is through two major programs – OCES and DGFS, conducted by the BARC Training Schools and also through the Dr. K.S. Krishnan Research Associateship (KSKRA) program.

Qualifying Degrees and Other Academic Requirements for OCES/DGFS
- For Engineering Disciplines
B.E. / B.Tech. /B.Sc. (Engineering) with a minimum of 60%* aggregate marks in the following engineering disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics Engineering (Related degree disciplines such as Electronics & Communication, Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics and Controls, etc are also admissible )
2 For Physics Discipline
MSc in Physics/ Applied Physics/ Electronics or BE/ BTech in Engineering Physics with minimum of 60%* aggregate marks.
- For Chemistry Discipline
MSc in Chemistry with Physics up to BSc or at subsidiary and/or ancillary level in case of five year integrated MSc and Mathematics.
- For Biosciences Discipline
MSc in Agriculture, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Botany, Plant Science, Zoology, Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, Food Technology, Entomology, Animal Science, Life Sciences and Biosciences
or
BE/BTech/BSc (Tech) only in Food Technology with minimum of 60%* aggregate marks.
- For Radiological Safety Engineering
MSc in Physics or Chemistry with Physics and Chemistry up to BSc or at subsidiary and/or ancillary level in case of integrated MSc, and Mathematics
- For Geology Discipline
MSc in Geology/ Applied Geology with Mathematics upto BSc. or at subsidiary and/or ancillary level in case of five year integrated MSc , with minimum of 60%* aggregate marks in MSc as well as in BSc.
- For Geophysics Discipline
MSc in Geophysics/ Applied Geophysics with Mathematics up to BSc or at subsidiary and/or ancillary level in case of five year integrated MSc , with minimum of 60% aggregate marks in MSc as well as in BSc.
(h) Those having MSc (by research) or PhD are not eligible
