Commonwealth Split-site PhD Scholarships: DFID 2963 views

Commonwealth Split-site PhD Scholarships for candidates of Developing Commonwealth Countries: The UK Department for International Development (DFID) funds the Scholarships for students/researchers of developing Commonwealth countries to support upto 12 (tweleve) months’ to carry out study/research at any eligible UK.

The PhD should be undertaken at the candidate’s home country, under the joint supervision of home country and UK academics.

Eligibility Conditions

To apply for these scholarships, you must:

  1. Be a Commonwealth citizen
  2. Be permanently resident in a any of the developing Commonwealth country
  3. Be registered for a PhD at a university in your home country
  4. Be available to start your academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2018

Selection criteria:
Applications are considered according to the following selection criteria:

  1. Academic merit of the candidate
  2. Quality of the plan of study
  3. Potential impact of the work on the development of the candidate’s home country

Conditional Eligible groups: Citizens of ALL Developing Commonwealth Countries

Duration: Upto 12 months. This period of study in UK can be taken at any stage during the PhD study. However, it can be divided into 2 or more periods depending on the work plan.

Note: If you have not already started your PhD work at the time of your application, you will be eligible to spend a max. of 6 months in the UK in your first year of study.

Scholarship benefits:

  1. covers full tuition fees for one year at the UK host university,
  2. stipend (living allowance) for up to one year in the UK,
  3. return airfare, and
  4. other allowances.
  5. The scholarship does not support the period of study at the home country university.
