Michigan State University invites applications for a tenure system faculty position in the area of composite and polymers materials with a preferred start date of August 16, 2017.
Applicants must have an earned PhD in Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering and Engineering or a related field, with expertise in all areas of additive manufacturing, polymer processing, other composites manufacturing, computer-aided design for polymer composites manufacturing, composites, bio-based and biodegradable polymers and polymer blends.
Applicants will be considered at the assistant, associate, and full professor levels. The applicants is expected to establish a sustainable research program, make significant scholarly contributions to their discipline, be an effective teacher and mentor of both undergraduate and graduate students, and engage in institutional and professional service.
The successful applicants is expected to demonstrate the ability to build a world-class, interdisciplinary, externally-funded research program complementing or extending the existing strengths of the department including recent hires in the area of polymeric and composite materials, while enhancing strategic areas for future growth. The successful applicant must also be capable of teaching polymer science and engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, with particular emphasis on engineering courses. Michigan State University has a long established research thrust in polymers and composites supported by several established faculty with strengths in nanocomposites, composite interfaces, biobased polymers, polymer processing, reactive extrusion, rheology, and characterization of polymers and composites.
Michigan State University also has in place an extensive infrastructure for the fabrication and characterization of polymers and composite materials housed in the Composite Materials and Structures Center and the Composite Vehicle Research Center.
