Funded PhD position in Bioengineering 778 views

University of Groningen is inviting applications form a talented and enthusiastic life scientist for a fully funded four-year PhD position. The position is available within the group of Dr. Anika Nagelkerke, embedded within the Pharmaceutical Analysis research unit within GRIP (Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy).

About the position:
  • The PhD candidate will perform independent and original research, will report on data obtained in international publications and presentations and is expected to assist in the supervision of research projects for both bachelor and master students.
  • The successful applicant will work in a multidisciplinary research environment where pharmaceutical science, cell biology and technological aspects are combined in order to improve our understanding of cancer and the drug responses thereof.
  • In this project, the PhD student will: employ biomaterials and microfluidic approaches to generate improved in vitro models for cancer; use these models for subsequent functional analyses and advanced toxicity testing; integrate the data obtained to determine which parameters are important for drug response.

Qualifications

  • Applicant must hold MSc degree in Life Science (Medical Biology, Biomedical Science, Bioengineering, Pharmacy or Biochemistry)
  • Relevant experience in the areas of cancer research and/or toxicology, and proven affinity with cell culture and biomaterials
  • Applicant must possess good command of English (oral and written) and excellent communication skills
  • Applicant must have the ability and initiative to work as an independent researcher in a multidisciplinary team.

Duration: 01 year with the option of a three-year extension
