The Helmholtz Centre Potsdam – GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences is offering 2 positions for Postdoctoral Researchers (m/f/x) in the Earth-Atmosphere Interactions (TEAM) Group of the Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics Section. The position is within the recently funded Helmholtz-Initiative Climate Adaptation and Mitigation (HI-CAM).
Responsibilities:
- assess temporal and spatial controls of GHG dynamics on local and regional scales
- apply quantitative analytical methods to large datasets
- integrate local (Eddy Covariance flux tower based) and airborne eddy covariance datasets
- generate data-driven emission & mitigation potential maps; identify low intervention/high impact regions
- generate and test hypotheses
- work as part of a multi-institutional team
- present results at scientific meetings and publish results in scientific journals
Qualifications:
- Applicants must hold Doctoral degree in Atmospheric/Environmental Science, Meteorology, Physics, Geoecology, or related field with in-depth knowledge of land-atmosphere interactions, EC flux and other micro-met measurements
- Applicant must have excellent coding and quantitative analytical skills (incl. large data sets), preferably in Matlab, R, or Python
- Applicant must demonstrate creative & critical thinking and ability to publish shown by a track record of original and innovative research
- Applicant must possess strong motivation and excellent oral and written communication skills
- Applicant must possess fluency in English (written and spoken), German is beneficial but not required
