Helmholtz International Fellow Award 2080 views

The Helmholtz International Fellow Award for Excellent Researchers and Science Managers from Abroad aims to strengthen existing cooperation between Helmholtz Centres and international research institutes and to further fortify the links between Helmholtz researchers and outstanding colleagues abroad. The Helmholtz International Fellow Award is awarded in recognition of the successful candidate’s personality and service to science and can only be accepted personally by the award winner. The award is not transferable.

Scope:

  • The International Fellow Award will be awarded to the outstanding senior scientists and research managers based outside Germany who have outclassed in fields relevant to the Helmholtz Association, including science management at large international research institutions.
  • The award will provide the opportunity to pursue research flexibly at one or more Helmholtz Centres where cooperation already exists or would be useful and profitable in the future.
  • The most important criteria are the researcher’s academic performance, his/her international reputation and the compatibility of his/her research field or project with the activities of the proposed Helmholtz Centre.
  • Priority will be given to individuals who are already working successfully with the Helmholtz Centres.

Number of awards: up to 10

Award value: €20,000; German or international researchers who are based abroad and who do not have an employment contract with a Helmholtz Centre are eligible for funding.

Applications:

  • There is no application form.
  • Applications must include the following documents:
  • CV and list of publications (including a brief list of key publications)
  • A letter of recommendation for the candidate in which the nominating party praises the candidate’s academic performance and explains the reasons for the nomination
  • The documents to be submitted either in English or German.
  • A copy of the application complete with original documentation will be submitted by the director of the relevant Helmholtz Centre to the president of the Helmholtz Association and via e-mail to Alexandra Rosenbach (alexandra.rosenbach@helmholtz.de)

Deadlines for the selection meetings in 2018:

  • 10 May 2018 (for selection during the Helmholtz Executive Committee meeting on 26 June 2018)
  • 28 September 2018 (for selection during the Helmholtz Executive Committee meeting on 07
    November 2018)
