HIV and AIDS Program, Center for Biomedical Research has a Postdoctoral position vacant. The postdoc will be reporting to Scientist II. Location for the position is Center for Biomedical Research, New York.

Duration: 01 year (renewable by mutual consent and availability of funds)

About the project:

  • Postdoc Fellow position is available in an HIV & AIDS lab to study mucosal HIV and SIV pathogenesis, innate and adaptive immune responses that influence mucosal HIV and SIV infection, and effects of other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and sex hormones on these events.
  • The research will also involve preclinical evaluation of the candidate microbicides with the focus on mucosal explant systems in human and macaques.
  • The Postdoc Fellow will also work with researchers in the other biomedical labs at the Population Council to advance new preventative strategies.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Design and take up experiments to dissect HIV and SIV pathogenesis within mucosa.
  • Explore and test methodologies to modulate mucosal immune responses to limit HIV spread.
  • Mentor and guide more junior researchers in the basic biological assays needed to assist in this research.
  • Work closely with other biomedical labs in testing new preventative strategies and exploring new biological methods.
  • Compile and analyze data.
  • Present research at meetings (internal and external) and write papers to publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Work closely with external collaborators.
  • Assist in grant writing to secure funding support to advance this research.

Qualifications:

  • Applicant must hold Ph.D., M.D. or MD/PhD degree in relevant subject.
  • Understanding and experience in molecular biology, virology, cell culture, cell biology (immune and epithelial cells), and flow cytometry will be advantegeous.
  • Applicant must be highly motivated, excellent attention to detail, with the capability to work independently and within a group as needed.
  • Skills to monitor and maintain project timelines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) are required.
