ICRISAT invite applications for the post of Senior Scientist (Crop Physiologist) and Head – ICRISAT Genebank. The position is based at ICRISAT- Patancheru Hyderabad and reports to Theme Leader – System Analysis for Climate Smart Agriculture.
Senior Scientist (Crop Physiologist)
Qualifications:
- Applicant must hold PhD degree in Plant Physiology, Genetics, Horticulture, Agronomy or related discipline with strong background in abiotic stress physiology with 5 years of postdoc
- Applicant must proficiency with the APSIM model and other crop modelling tools.
- Applicant must have experience with assay development and physiological assessment of drought adaptive mechanisms particularly in cereals.
- Applicant must be proficient in English (written and spoken).
- Applicant must be able to interact effectively in a multi-cultural and multidisciplinary environment.
- Applicant must be able to work independently and in a team-based environment.
Note: This is Internationally Recruited Staff (IRS) position for 3 years, renewable based on the performance of the incumbent and the institute’s continuing need for the position.

Head – ICRISAT Genebank
ICRISAT has a large medium term and long-term storage facility in Patancheru and small collections at three regional locations (Nairobi, Kenya; Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, and Niamey, Niger). The Head of the ICRISAT Genebank will be fully responsible for operations at all of these locations.
Qualifications:
- Applicant must hold PhD in plant breeding, genetics, economic botany, seed/tissue physiology or closely related discipline.
- Applicant must possess at least 10 years of postdoctoral experience including at least 5 years’ experience in the operation of an international/regional or national genebank involving crops with different levels of outcrossing and propagation.
- Applicant must have expertise in population genetics, breeding systems, crop evolution, seed physiology and pathology relevant to the conservation and distribution of crop germplasm including wild relatives.
- Applicant must have understanding of international laws, conventions, protocols, intellectual property rights, crop genetic diversity in collections.
- Applicant must possess fluency in English (spoken and written)
