Max Planck School of Photonics (MPSP)

The MPSP offers a program structured in two phases. Within the first phase, we call it the study phase, candidates obtain a photonics master’s degree from one of three teaching universities in Erlangen, Jena or Karlsruhe.

Offered study program:

  1. M.Sc. Advanced Optical Technologies – MAOT program in Erlangen-Nuremberg
  2. M.Sc. Photonics – ASP program in Jena
  3. M.Sc. Optics and Photonics – KSOP program in Karlsruhe

For Research Phase, the PhD topics are offered in different research fields:

– Advanced Imaging – Attosecond Physics – Biophotonics – Fiber Optics – Laser Source Development – Nanophotonics – Nanoscopy – Optical Design – Optical Communication – Quantum Optics – Strongfield Physics – Ultrafast Imaging – X-ray Science

Qualifications / Application

  1. Bachelor and/or Master of Science/ Engineering/ Technology with significant exposure to physics, electrical engineering, chemistry, photonics or a related subject. If you have not yet finished your degree, you may apply likewise with a preliminary official transcript (university’s certified statement of your academic record).
  2. At least two referees who can attest to your academic, professional, and/or research abilities in the context of your interest in pursuing a graduate degree.
  3. TOEFL, or an equivalent English test (minimum points/grades): TOEFL PBT (550), TOEFL CBT (215), TOEFL IBT (85), IELTS (6.5).
  4. Additional documents, e.g. CV.

Timeline

  1. Application deadline for the upcoming academic year is until December.
  2. Personal interviews with pre-selected applicants are expected to take place until the end of March in the following year.
  3. The program starts in Fall 2020.
