Oregon Medical Physics Program (OMPP)
Oregon Medical Physics Program (OMPP) is a partnership between Oregon State and Oregon Health and Science University to educate medical physicists at the graduate level. Recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Educational Programs,
Medical physics inspects and applies numerous aspects of nuclear science to medicine. For radiation applications to patients (Radiation Therapy or Diagnostic Imaging), a medical physicist is involved with selecting and accepting new radiation imaging equipment, ongoing equipment quality assurance, individual patient radiation therapy plans, and radiation protection of the employees working with these equipment.
Academics and Admissions:
- Master’s and PhD degrees in the above mentioned subject is offered.
- Strong foundation in basic physics acknowledged by either a degree in physics, engineering, or any other area of physical science with physics education equivalent to a minor in physics. This should include at least three upper-level undergraduate physics courses.
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized U.S. academic institution or equivalent foreign institution.
- Transcripts documenting coursework completed, grades received and degrees awarded from all universities are required.
- Degrees from Foreign Institutions: University strongly encourages all applicants with foreign degrees to obtain a World Education Service ICAP course-by-course credential evaluation.
- Proof of thorough training and training in the quantitative sciences including any specific courses required by the Graduate Program of application.
- Cumulative grade point average of all UG courses of at least 3.0 or its equivalent in other grading systems.
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE): Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical Writing scores of 153, 148, and 4.5 or above respectively, are generally considered acceptable for admission.
- Medical College Aptitude Test (MCAT) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) are also acceptable as a substitute for the GRE.
- All foreign applicants who are not a native of English language must take the one of the following: TOEFL, IELTS
