The Universities Space Research Association (USRA) is offering NASA Animation Fellowship. The fellowship is a yearlong program for animators wishing to explore the intersection of animation, motion graphics and science.
About the fellowship:
- The selected candidate will work with an outstanding team of animators, data visualizers, video producers, and science writers.
- He/she will create content for NASA’s most exciting science missions: mind bending results from the Hubble Space Telescope, the inner workings of a hurricane, racing rivers of plasma beneath the surface of the Sun, an audacious new concept to sample the atmosphere of Venus, and extra solar planets with clouds made of rubies.
- The animation products created by the candidate will be used in a wide range of audiences: news media, museums, science centers, educators, and NASA’s popular social media streams.
Responsibilities:
- Fellow is expected to make substantive contributions by using software such as Adobe Creative Suite, After Effects, and Maya and Cinema4D to create animation and motion graphics content.
- Assist senior animators by creating motion graphics, models, setting up scenes/lighting, rendering, compositing, and archiving
- Develop your own projects from start to finish: attending meetings with scientists, storyboarding, and motion graphics and creating final renders.
- Other job related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Applicant must hold Bachelor’s degree in animation, or fine arts related field or currently enrolled in a degree program.
- Applicant must have some experience in techniques for the production of motion graphics and 2D computer animation including storyboarding, modeling, texture mapping, compositing, and rendering.
- Applicant must also have experience with science or technology themes desired Experience in techniques for the production of motion graphics and 2D computer animation.
- Applicant must possess proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly After Effects, Photoshop and experience with Maya a plus
- Applicant must demonstrate strong sense of composition, motion, light and color and skill in translating and visualizing complex concepts and ideas.
