PhD (Doctoral) in Biotechnology and Applied Microbiology at Chalmers: The Division of Industrial Biotechnology, Chalmers invites online applications from experienced researcher for PhD student position in Biotechnology and Applied Microbiology. The position is limited to a maximum of five years (four years plus time for teaching.

About position: This position has an aim to explore non-conventional yeast species for identification of novel metabolic gene clusters dedicated to carbohydrate consumption. This project will generate new knowledge about carbohydrate metabolism in non-conventional yeasts as well as a portfolio of characterized transporters and enzymes. In this project a high level of teamwork is required both within the research group and division, other departments at Chalmers and with international collaborators.

Position: Ph.D.

Duration: 5 years (four years plus time for teaching).

Salary: As per norms.

Educational qualifications: Interested candidates must have a master’s level degree microbiology, biotechnology/bioengineering, molecular biology or other related disciplines with experiences and skills include recognised work experience in a biotechnology laboratory setting and theoretical knowledge and practical experience of molecular biology and microbiology. Candidates having hand-on experience in bioinformatics, genome editing techniques, heterologous protein expression, enzyme characterization, omics and analytical techniques will be preferred. Candidate must also be highly proficient in Swedish and English.
