PhD in Environmental Engineering USA 2007 views

PhD positions in Environmental Engineering are available at the Silverman Laboratory (http://engineering.nyu.edu/people/andrea-silverman), at New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering (Department of Civil and Urban Engineering), with particular focus on disinfection processes during wastewater treatment, and health-related water microbiology.

PhD Positions will begin during the 2017/2018 academic year.

Within the broad topics of water quality and wastewater treatment, the Silverman Laboratory conducts research on

  • the detection and control of waterborne pathogens,
  • the design of natural wastewater treatment systems (e.g., treatment ponds and constructed wetlands), and
  • the safe reuse of human waste.

Specific research areas that incoming PhD students will work on include natural sunlight disinfection of waterborne bacteria and viruses, and the fate of antibiotic resistance genes in the environment. Candidates will conduct work in an environmental microbiology laboratory at NYU, using both culture-based and molecular microbiological tools.

How to Apply:

Candidates should possess (or be studying towards) an MS. in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology, or a related field. Interested applicants should contact Dr. Andrea Silverman (andrea.silverman@nyu.edu) and include a brief description of their research interests and a CV.

Formal applications must be made to the graduate program in Civil and Urban Engineering at the Tandon School of Engineering (http://engineering.nyu.edu/admissions/graduate/apply).

Admitted students will receive a competitive stipend, full tuition, and benefits.
