Description

PhD student positions are available for highly motivated individuals with interest in studying primary cilia and brain development using a combination of molecular, cellular, genetic, live cell imaging, and bioinformatics approaches.

Project Details

The project will involve utilizing mouse models to dissect the primary cilia-driven mechanisms that control brain development and relevant neurodevelopmental disorders. The student will be fully funded and work in the laboratory of Dr. Jiami Guo in the Departments of Cell Biology and Anatomy at the University of Calgary, Canada.

Required Qualifications:

1. BSc or MSc or an equivalent degree in cell biology, developmental biology, genetics, neuroscience, biochemistry, bioinformatics, or a related discipline.
2. Prior research experience in wet and/or dry labs. Knowledge and experience in biochemistry, molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, mouse genetics, 2-photon microscopy, and confocal microscopy would be highly desirable. Strong programming skills in R and Python, and prior experience with sequencing analysis would be an asset.
3. Must be self‐motivated and hard-working, with a keen interest in working on multidisciplinary projects.
4. A strong academic background.
5. Proficiency in English.
6. Excellent communication, written and interpersonal skills.
7. Willingness to work in an international team.
