PhD in Marine Population Genetics and Spatial Modeling: PhD student position in marine population genetics and spatial modeling (3+1 years) at ETH Zurich and the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow & Landscape Research.

Research Overview: WSL conducts research on the processes shaping & maintaining species diversity within landscapes and seascapes. The team combines field data & modelling to evaluate how extant ecosystems are expected to respond to global changes.

Project Overview: The projects aims at investigating the eco-evolutionary processes shaping fish lineage and functional diversity on coral reefs.

The seleted PhD student will also participate to several field campaigns to gather empirical data on coral reef systems. The group of Landscape Ecology is a young and dynamic team of researchers, dedicated to advance interdisciplinary science. 

Requirements / Qualifications: 

  1. Candidate should have a master degree in environmental sciences,
  2. Demonstrated knowledge in population genetics and R programming.
  3. A professional diving licence or extensive experience with the strong willingness to acquire this licence is mandatory.
  4. Knowledge of species distribution modelling, differential equations, or other forms of ecological modelling is an advantage.
  5. Have strong collaborative skills, abilities to publish at a high international level, and a good English level.
