The Research Group “Genetics and Biomarkers of Human Ageing” headed by Dr. Joris Deelen at Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing is looking for a PhD student (m/f/d) in “Functional genomics of ageing” (job code 06-2020).
About the research:
- The research group investigates genetics and biomarkers of human ageing using different model organisms (i.e. fruit flies and mice) and cellular models, as well as samples from old human individuals (≥70 years of age).
- The proposed research project combines in vivo phenotyping with molecular biology to study how genetic variants involved in healthy ageing in humans influence metabolism in model organisms.
- Applicant must be a talented, dynamic, highly motivated young scientist to join our enthusiastic and collaborative team in an excellent scientific environment.
- Specifically applicants with a background in mouse metabolic phenotyping, cell culture and/or CRISPR/Cas9.
Qualifications:
- Candidate must hold a master’s degree/diploma in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a related field.
- Candidate should have strong written and oral communication skills and a collaborative mind-set.
- The working language is English; knowledge of the German language is not required.
- Experience in one of the following methodologies: mouse metabolic phenotyping, cell culture, or CRISPR/Cas9 is strongly preferred.
Applications:
Apply online as one single pdf-file and applications should include:
- A one-page cover letter that includes answers to the following questions: 1) Why are you interested in this position? 2) What makes you the right person for this position (skills and expertise)? 3) What are your research interests and long-term career plans?
- A CV, including your scientific interests, wet and dry lab skills, publications and scientific achievements.
- Certificates and transcripts of the degrees you obtained already.
- Contact information for 2-3 references.
