Center for Applied Geosciences at University of Tübingen is inviting applications for a PhD position in Geomicrobiology (Composition and structure of iron-organic-matter complexes in antimicrobial compounds). The PhD student will investigate the iron-binding antimicrobial compound pulcherrimin in comparison to other iron-complexes. Pulcherrimin is naturally produced by several strains of Staphylococcus epidermidis and other human skin and nasal commensals as well as certain yeasts. Start date for successful applicants is fall 2019.
Requirements:
- Strong background and/or interest in Chemistry, Geochemistry, Biochemistry, Biogeochemistry and Spectroscopy
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Excellent management and communication skills
- Highly motivated for interdisciplinary research
- Good computer and language (English) skills
