The Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Department of Molecular Medicine at University of Oslo is inviting applications for a PhD position in Molecular immunology. The position is funded by a grant from the Institute of Basal Medical Sciences.

About the position:
  • The PhD Candidate will work in the group Molecular Immunology, led by Professor Anne Spurkland.
  • The group is in the fore front of the characterization of the Lck adapter molecule “T cell specific adapter protein” or SH2D2A.
  • The group identified this gene in human activated T cells and has examined the signal transduction pathways which are modulated by this protein in T cells.
  • Recent work of the group focuses on the role of TSAd in T cell activation and in development of disease, in particular cancer and multiple sclerosis.
  • The group has established strong collaborations with scientists from Sweden, UK and the USA.

Duration: 3 years may be extended to fourth year.

Qualification:

  • Applicants must either hold a medical degree (M.D. or equivalent such as cand. med.) or a master’s degree (120 ECTS; minimum grade B ECTS grading scale) or equivalent.
  • The master’s degree must include a thesis of at least 30 ECTS and be in a subject relevant to the position, such as Biology, Medicine, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Immunology, Physiology Chemistry or Biochemistry. Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Applicant must possess fluency in oral and written communication English.
  • For teaching assignments, fluency in a Scandinavian language is mandatory.
