PhD position in Neutron nanomediators at SNI: Basel is a city university (oldest university in Switzerland) with international flair (bordering France and Germany). The Swiss Nanoscience Institute (SNI) at the University of Basel invites applications from very motivated researcher for filling up PhD position “Neutron nanomediators for non-invasive temperature mapping of fuel cells (P1903)”. The SNI contains a wide variety of topics, including cutting edge quantum physics and chemistry, nanotechnology, material science, cell biology, biochemistry, or medical research.
About position: The project requires the abilities to work independently, interact with other researchers. They will explore the use of magnetic nanoparticles as mediators for the temperature measurement. A polarized neutron beam such as the one provided at the BOA beam line of the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) will be depolarized further Using a spin analyser and an imaging detector, we will therefore obtain an image of the temperature distribution in a non-invasive way.
