The University of Luxembourg, the Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts, and Education invites applications for a PhD (Doctoral Candidate) position in Philosophy (m/f) commencing from July 1, 2019. This is a Fully-funded position.

Duration: Fixed-term 14-months initial contract, extendable to 48 months

Role and responsibilities:

• The doctoral researcher will be working within the Institute of Philosophy.
• The doctoral researcher is expected to contribute to the research project “RREXAM – Rational reflection examined” (FNR-funded) in the area of epistemology and philosophy of mind.
• The goal of the project is to critically assess the powers and limitations of rational reflection, where ‘rational reflection’ is understood as the human capacity of self-consciously attaining knowledge or self-knowledge in an armchair, quasi-apriori way.
• The candidate’s main task will be to prepare a doctoral thesis, under the supervision of Prof. Frank Hofmann (Institute of Philosophy). The thesis work will be undertaken at the University of Luxembourg, Campus Belval.
• The doctoral researcher will be given the opportunity to teach in the BCE-Philosophy program.

Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Philosophy, preferably a Master’s degree of the University of Luxembourg or an equivalent.
• Candidates should meet the eligibility requirements of the Doctoral School in Humanities and Social Sciences and will be a member of this doctoral school.
• Good English language skills.
• Willingness to work in an inter-cultural and international environment.
• Curiosity and self-motivation.
