PhD position in Physical Geography at NIOZ: The department of Estuarine and Delta Systems (EDS), NIOZ invited application from eligible highly-motivated candidate  interested in in combining experimental work, using large data-bases, remote sensing and modelling for PhD position: “Optimizing dike-marsh combinations for flood prevention: unraveling the development of marsh stability”. This project aims  to investigate experimentally, in the field and the laboratory, which physical and ecological factors determine the vegetation development in front of a (re-aligned) dike, and how this contributes to the build-up and strength of the marsh sediment .

About the Position: The focus of this project is to actively support managers with insight needed for ecosystem conservation, ecosystem restoration and creating nature based flood defense. This position is part of a larger integrated multidisciplinary research project (for details see project organization below), aimed at understanding how to apply nature-based flood defense making use of salt marshes fronting a dike.

Position: Ph.D Position

Fellowship: As per norms.

Duration: 4 years, a pension scheme, a yearly 8% vacation allowance, year-end bonus, flexible employment conditions and a good operating budget for the project

Location: Royal NIOZ-Yerseke

Educational qualifications: Interested and eligible candidates must have MSc degree in ecology/biology OR physical geography OR engineering. Candidates must proficient in spoken and written English. Candidates having experience with iron isotope analysis will be preferred.
