PhD Position: Soil Science and Soil Conservation 2036 views

The Professorship of Soil Resources (Prof. Dr. Jan Bernd Siemens), Institute of Soil Science and Soil Conservation, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Nutritional Sciences, and Environmental Management at Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) invites applications for a part-time position to the extent of 65% full-time equivalent for a  PhD Position (m/f/d) within the DFG-project “Sorption thermodynamics and aggregation as controls of substrate use and mineralization”. The position is available starting October 1st 2021 for the duration of 3 years.

The project is part of the nation-wide DFG Priority Programme SoilSystems (SPP 2322), which aims to understand soils, their biodiversity and their ecosystem services through thermodynamic principles of energy and matter fluxes stored in form of SOM and biomass.

Requirements:
  • Applicant must hold Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Soil Science, Ecology, Agricultural or Environmental Geosciences, or (Physical) Chemistry
  • Interest in exact lab work and thermodyanmic calculations, willingness to work with 14C-labelled compounds and should be willing to travel.
  • Distinct ability to work in teams and cooperate
  • Very good command of the English language and willingness to learn German is presupposed
