PhD positions in Cell biology / Biochemistry / Signaling / Nanoparticles at the Institute for Biochemistry, Jena University Hospital – Friedrich Schiller University Jena
Description
RTG1715‐Project: Temporal and spatial analyses of signaling cues in the membranes of postsynaptic spines during synaptic plasticity Michael Kessels.
Each Phd / doctoral candidate will work in an interdisciplinary research project and will be jointly supervised by a main supervisor and two further investigators with complementary expertise.
Project Description: In the course of the RTG, the group have established a combination of freeze fracturing and immune gold labelling (FRIL) that allows for direct visualization of the membrane components.
This project aims at doing quantitative spatio‐temporal analyses of signals at the plasma membrane of postsynaptic spines of excitatory hippocampal neurons during NMDA‐induced long‐term depression (LTD).
Preliminary results to be built on and expanded suggest that signaling is organized in form of nanodomains and follows a dynamic biphasic PIP2 response in specifically the postsynaptic scaffold containing spine heads.
Fellowship: Salary scheme TV‐‐L E13 (salary agreement for public Service employees; 50 and 65% respectively of postdocs salary).
The position is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (for 3 years) ‐ if required, an elongation for finishing the PhD may be possible from other funding of the group.
Application Procedure: Please direct your complete application (coverletter; CV; certificates including grades and grading explanation, list of publications honours etc., 2-3 ref. addresses) to
