The Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces Potsdam invites within the framework of Cluster of Excellence Matters of Activity. Image Space Material applications from outstanding young scientists for the position of Ph.D. student in full time from 01.01.2020 limited until 31.12.2022.

Overview:

Project: Material Form Function.

The position focuses on the multi-scale characterization of fiber systems and fiber structures in nature and their geometric-constructive and design development into fiber-based constructions for spatial applications.

The aim of the research is the development of biologically inspired material systems for sustainable developments of energetically and structurally efficient structures for the spatial-architectural context.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  1. Higher education degree preferably in architecture, engineering or physics
  2. Knowledge of experimental, material-based prototyping, structural design principles, fiber and textile-based material systems and manufacturing practices, digital and analog shape generation processes, numerical analysis and modelling
  3. Experience with geometric – mathematical form-finding processes with interfaces to programming, engineering and design desired
  4. Above-average willingness for interdisciplinary cooperation
  5. High proficiency in spoken and written English
  6. Very good German language skills desired
  7. Have a high level of social competence and the ability to work well in a team
