Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is inviting application for a PhD position in Operando spectroscopic assessment of particle size and compositional effects in CO2-reduction electrocatalysts. The position is available in the Electrocatalysis and Interfaces Group.

Tasks and responsibility:
  • The European Training Network CATCHY provides a concerted effort to design novel high-performance thermo- and electro-catalysts for the conversion of CO2 into addedvalue synthetic fuels.
  • The work will focus on: Uncovering the relation between nanoparticle sizes, compositions and their product selectivity upon CO2-electroreduction using samples provided by the project’s partners; Participate in the design of the experimental setups allowing in situ/operando X-Ray absorption spectroscopy measurements of these materials and perform such experiments at the Swiss Light Source; Actively interact with your colleagues at PSI’s Electrochemistry Laboratory and the Operando Spectroscopy Group, as well as with the EU network partners.
  • Publish the results of these works in well regarded journals

Requirements:

  • Applicant must hold a university degree (MSc or equivalent) in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science or a related field.
  • Applicant must have hands-on experience in electrochemistry, enjoy practical work using advanced instrumentation and like to conduct research in a team.
  • Applicant must possess very good communication skills in English. Welcome assesst include experience in analytical- and/or radiation-methods (e.g. gas chromatography, spectroscopy, X-Ray diffraction), and/or with design software (e.g. Inventor).

Applications:

Submit application online including addresses of referees for the position as a PhD Student (index no. 5423-02).
