The Division Chemical and Optical Sensing at Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing is inviting applications for PhD Student (m/f) in the field of Chemistry starting as soon as possible.
Responsibilities:
- Development of fluorescent probe monomers for glycan-binding polymers
- Design, synthesis and characterization of the fluorescent probe monomers
- Investigation of the binding behaviour and supramolecular chemistry of the monomers
- Integration of the monomers into nano- and microparticle-based molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for the recognition of cancer cells by fluorescence imaging in tumour diagnostics
- Testing of the MIPs in established assays on various model as well as real samples
- Publication, presentation and documentation of the results in reports, scientific publications and at national and international conferences
Qualifications:
- University degree (Master/Diploma) in chemistry, preferably in the field of organic chemistry
- Comprehensive knowledge and significant experience in organic synthesis
- Knowledge in polymer chemistry and optical spectroscopy
- Interest in nano- and microparticles as a versatile vehicle in modern analytical chemistry
- Good ability in scientific writing and in presenting in front of an audience
- Excellent command of the English language in writing and presentation is a prerequisite
