PhD student in Physical Chemistry: LMER (EPFL), Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne

LMER is a research group of EPFL / Chemical Engineering focusing on the science and technology of renewable energy storage. We are located in the Building of EPFL Valais/Wallis in Sion, Switzerland.

Research Area: Materials for energy storage, i.e. hydrogen and the synthesis of hydrocarbons. The open PhD position is on the research of the hydrogen interaction with metals, nano-materials and CO2.

Your Tasks

  1. Investigate the reaction of hydrogen with metals and carbon materials.
  2. Synthesize carbon based and metallic nano-materials.
  3. Investigate the heterogeneously catalyzed reaction of hydrogen with CO2.
  4. Develop new methods for the synthesis of metallic catalysts for CO2
  5. Publish papers and take care of the instruments in the lab.

Requirements / Qualifications

  1. MSc degree in physical chemistry or chemical engineering or any related field from a top university
  2. An intrinsic motivation to learn more about surface chemistry, metallurgy, catalysis and thermodynamics
  3. You have a good level of hands-on experience, a big interest in science and a proven talent to apply your theoretical knowledge to scientific challenges.
  4. You are fluent in English and French or German.
