The Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics invites applications for a PhD position in Precision Gene Control at the research group of Dr. Denes Hnisz. The Hnisz lab is looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic young researcher to study principles of gene control underlying critical physiological and pathological cell states.

About the research:
  • The lab seeks to understand how transcriptional programs are established during development, how their corruption leads to human pathologies, and how this knowledge can be used for therapeutic manipulation of human disease genes.
  • The lab operate on the interphase of biology, chemistry and physics in a highly collaborative way to solve fundamental problems in gene regulation, and are currently using embryonic stem cells, cancer models, state-of-the art genetic and biochemical perturbation technologies, genome structure mapping and computational methods.

Requirements:

  • Successful candidates should have a passion to solve mysteries in the biomedical research space, and the willingness and ability to learn and adapt to competitive environments.
  • A Master’s degree or a similar qualification in biological, chemical, physical or computational sciences is required.
  • Previous experience with mammalian stem cells, CRISPR/Cas9 or advanced fluorescence microscopy techniques, and knowledge of computational biology is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Duration: 3 years with the possibility of extension

Starting date: negotiable

Applications:

Candidates should submit their application including (i) a brief cover letter (describing your motivation), (ii) a CV, (iii) contact information of 2-3 references and send all documents as a single pdf-file via e-mail to: Dr. Denes Hnisz; E-Mail: job-1914@molgen.mpg.de
