Duration: The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute provides funding for Four-year PhD Fellowship.

This is a unique format aimed at sustaining the most promising students to commence in depth postgraduate education. Currently there are 32 Programmes based in centres of excellence all through the UK with specific guidance provided in a range of significant biomedical research areas:

  • Genetics, Statistics and Epidemiology
  • Physiological Sciences
  • Neuroscience
  • Developmental Biology and Cell Biology
  • Immunology and Infectious Disease
  • Molecular and Cellular Biology
  • Structural Biology and Bioinformatics.

First year of study combines skilled courses with laboratory rotations to expand the student’s acquaintance of the subject area. By the end of the first year, students will be allowed to make a well-versed preference of their three-year Philosophy of Doctorate research project.

Fellowship / Benefits

Funding for four year studentship includes the following  :

  • Stipend
  • PhD registration amount at UK/European Union student rate
  • Payment towards laboratory rotation expenses in the first year
  • Research study expenses for years two to four
