Post-doctoral Researchers (R3 – Established Researcher): Nanoscience, ICN2

Post-doctoral Researchers in the field of modeling two-dimensional-based gas sensors at the Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2)

Research area: Theoretical and Computational Nanoscience Group

Project Description: The lab develops cutting-edge theoretical research on quantum transport phenomena in graphene and 2D materials and has a long experience in large-scale simulations of complex materials.

This project is connected to an EU-FET program in which European industries and engineering laboratories will develop novel generation of gas sensors, while the group will be in charge of the modelling tasks to guide the experimental towards optimization of devices and support the interpretation of measurements.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  1. The candidate will conduct numerical simulations of the optical and electrical conductivity of graphene under CO2 or water adsorption.
  2. The simulations will assess the impact of unwanted surface contamination on the electrical output signals.
  3. Calculation of the variations of electrical and thermal conductivities of a “heated graphene patch”
  4. Comparison with experimental data will be achieved to extract the intrinsic signals from parasitic ones and access the upper sensitivity limit of the detector structures.

Requirements

  1. Phd
  2. Theoretical physics and quantum simulations (molecular dynamics DFT and/or tight-binding modelling), and experience in device simulation or simulation of photodetectors
  3. Fluent in English.

Research Career Profile: R3 – Established Researcher

Work Features:

  1. Full time work (37,5h/week)
  2. Contract Length: Four (04) years
  3. Salary will depend on qualifications and demonstrated experience.
  4. Fellowship according to the cost of living.
  5. Support to the relocation issues.
  6. Life Insurance.

Application Procedure:

All applications should be made via the ICN2 website and include the following:

  1. A cover letter.
  2. A full CV including contact details.
  3. 2 Reference letters or referee contacts.
