Postdoc Associate/Staff Scientist in Computational Biology 1014 views

The research groups of Dr. Denes Hnisz and Prof. Dr. Martin Vingron at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics is offering an open fulltime position: Postdoctoral Associate / Staff Scientist (m/f/d) Computational Biology (E14 according to the TVöD salary scale) Code: 21-07.

Applicant must be highly motivated and enthusiastic computational biologist/bioinformatician to study principles of gene control underlying critical physiological and pathological cell states. The aim is to understand how transcriptional programs are established during development, how their corruption leads to pathologies, and how this knowledge can be used for therapeutic manipulation of human disease genes.

Requirements:
  • Candidate should have a passion to solve mysteries, and the willingness and ability to learn and adapt to competitive environments.
  • Applicant must hold PhD degree or a similar qualification in Bioinformatics/Biology.
  • Strong coding skills, and experience with Next Generation Sequence analyses are essential.
  • Applicant will pursue projects on the interface of the research interests of the Hnisz and Vingron labs, and will be a critical conduit between the two leads.

Projects:

  • Develop machine learning-based classification tools for understanding the sequence features that drive phase separation behavior of key transcriptional regulators
  • Develop models and approaches for interrogating NGS data, including genome structure mapping, single cell RNA sequencing data to footprint biomolecular condensates on the genome
  • Innovate approaches to integrate data from high content image-based screens and chemical perturbation technologies to build workflows for preclinical testing of small molecules targeting transcriptional condensates.
  • The position is limited for 3 years. It is available as of now but starting dates are negotiable.

Applications:

  • Application to be submitted via job-21-07@molgen.mpg.de including
  • Brief cover letter (describing motivation)
  • CV
  • Contact information of 2-3 references
