Postdoc Fellow at Centre of Excellence, CISMAC at the Department of Global Health and Primary Care, Centre of Excellence, Centre for Intervention Science in Maternal and Child Health, University of Bergen.

CISMAC Postdoctoral Fellow is available for a period of three (3) years from 29th of December, 2017. The position will primarily be linked to two CISMAC studies in Nepal and one in India and Nepal:

  1. “Vitamin B12 Supplementation During Pregnancy on Cognitive Development (Nepal), and
  2. “The effect of Vitamin B12 supplementation on growth and Neurodevelopment in Nepali Children after one and two years – extended follow ups”(Nepal)

Projects Overview

  1. Studies in which the postdoc fellow will work and undertake his/her research will be focused on estimating the clinical impact of supplementing young infants with clinical severe infection with a daily dose of zinc syrup (India and Nepal).
  2. The two trials in Nepal focus on supplementing pregnant women or young children with vitamin B12 to measure any effect on their growth and cognitive performance.

Required Qualifications and qualities

  1. The candidate must hold a PhD-degree within the field of nutrition.
  2. The candidate should have experience with complex statistical analyses, child growth curves and growth velocity analyses.
  3. The candidate should have experience with analyses of large epidemiological studies in low and middle-income countries.
  4. Experience from teaching postgraduates in epidemiology will be considered a major strength.
  5. The candidate should be proficient in spoken and written English.
  6. Excellent skills in Norwegian is an additional advantage.

Salary level 57 (code 1352/pay framework 24.1) at present NOK 486 100 gross p.a., with a degree in Medicine or Dentistry level 59 (code 1352/pay framework 24.3) at present NOK 503,800 gross p.a., with a medical specialization level 61 (code 1352/pay framework 24.5) at present NOK 522 400 gross p.a. on the government salary scale. Further promotion will be after service seniority in the position.
  3. If applicable, a pension contribution of 2% will be deducted and deposited to the Norwegian state pension scheme. A good pension scheme in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

Conditions of fellowship:

  1. Fixed term positions.
  2. The fixed term period for the position is 3 years (possibility for an extension of the period up to 4 years)
