Postdoc fellowship in Cancer Research USA: Cancer is a complex disease and curing it will take a multidisciplinary effort. So, no matter what your field of discipline, the Pelotonia Postdoctoral Fellowship Program wants YOU to contribute to the fight against cancer.

Guidelines:

• 2 year fellowships are available for ANY postdoctoral fellow, regardless of nationality, to do cancer research here at The Ohio State University. Emphasis is given applicants who have recently graduated (within the last year, excluding clinical fellows) and who also are, or will be new to OSU -less than one year-, and who have the potential to become independent scientists
• Applicants must propose a cancer related project and the project must be written by the applicant
• Awardees will be appointed as postdoctoral fellows and be paid a stipend based on NIH Guidelines
• A $10K annual “matching” contribution to The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Pelotonia Fellowship Program will be required for each awarded fellowship. Options for fulfilling this requirement are numerous.  We suggest this be split between the mentor and the mentor’s home department, but may come from any combination of funds from the college, department, development, mentor etc.
• Applicants from CCHMC are eligible to apply if their mentor is a member of the OSUCCC when they apply
• Fellowship funding is contingent upon the awardee and mentor participating in Pelotonia.  Fellows will be expected to ride in Pelotonia during each year of their fellowship and their mentor is strongly encouraged to do the same.  If either the fellow or mentor is not able to ride in Pelotonia, they may choose to be a “virtual rider” instead.  As a virtual rider, they will have the same fundraising expectations as a regular rider
• Applications for postdoctoral fellowships will be accepted 3 times per year
• Applicants may only apply twice
• Clinical fellows are strongly encouraged to apply
• Research Awards: Postdoctoral awardees who do not qualify to be appointed as postdoctoral fellows because of their visa status will receive Pelotonia research funding and will hold the position of postdoctoral researcher

How to Apply:

Please e-mail your application as one attachment (pdf preferred) with the following information to jeffrey.mason@osumc.edu on or before midnight at the end of February 15th, tentatively (confirmation will be e-mailed within 48 hours)

1. Completed application (next page)
2. Research Proposal (*If this is a re-submission, please submit a ½ page description of what has changed since the last submission)
3. Applicant Biosketch (NIH format that includes personal statement)
4. Include only publications that are published or in-press (no “submitted” or “in preparation” please)
5. List impact factor and ranking in field for each publication
6. Mentor biosketch (NIH format-5 pages maximum)

Additionally, please have only 2 recommenders (1 must be from your mentor(s), 1 preferably from your PhD advisor) submit letters of reference to jeffrey.mason@osumc.edu on or before February 15th that address the following:

1. Potential of the candidate (including strengths and weaknesses)
2. Your mentor’s letter should also discuss:
   • Mentor’s training record, achievements of other trainees and commitment to you
   • Detail how the $10,000 annual contribution will be split/paid

Updated publications may be submitted to jeffrey.mason@osumc.edu before the review session (end of March)

All applications will be critically reviewed based on the following criteria:

1. Applicant strengths and research potential – *The primary emphasis will be funding applicants who have recently graduated (within the last year, excluding clinical fellows) and who are, or will be, new to OSU -less than one year-, and who have the potential to become independent scientists.*
2. Mentor/advisor’s qualifications and training record
3. Innovativeness and impact of the project relevant to cancer research
