The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics is seeking applications for a Postdoc in biochemistry (m/f/d). The position will be available in the Boehm department. The Boehm group addresses a number of cutting-edge research questions related to the development and evolution of the vertebrate immune system. Candidate must be a protein biochemist with proven experience in recombinant protein expression, purification, and structure-function analysis. This position is open immediately and initially funded for two years.

Role and responsibilities:
  • The work will focus on the characterization of new protein families with presumed immunological functions in lampreys, the most primitive vertebrate species possessing an adaptive immune system.
  • The selected candidate will work in close collaboration with the groupĀ“s scientists, who address several aspects of the lamprey immune system.
  • The selected candidate will have access to the core facilities of the institute, including an excellent proteomics facility.
  • The postdoc is expected to have extensive experience in cloning, protein expression, protein purification, and characterization of protein complexes using a variety of biophysical methods (for example: ITC, AUC, DLS).
  • The postdoc fellow should also have hands-on experience with different expression systems (E.coli, mammalian cells, insect cells and Pichia pastoris). Research experience in cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) is highly desirable.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants should possess an academic degree plus a PhD degree in Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Molecular Biology or a related field and a strong publication record.
  • Applicant must be a dedicated and motivated team player with strong communication skills and good command of the English language.
